Instructions
- Slice the washed apples thinly. Add lemon juice, raisins, and sweetener, then mix well and set aside.
- Divide the defrosted filo dough sheets into two equal parts. Lay the first part (2-3 sheets) lengthwise, slightly overlapping the edges. Brush generously with melted butter. Repeat with the second part, layering it on top and brushing with butter as well
- Evenly spread the filling over the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, then carefully fold in the edges and roll it up into a log
- Brush the strudel with a beaten egg and, if desired, sprinkle with raw nuts. Bake in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
- Once the strudel is ready, let it cool slightly. If desired, dust with powdered sugar and serve warm—with a scoop of cold ice cream and a few mint sprigs... Mmm, perfection!
Notes
- For best results, take the filo dough out of the freezer in advance—this way, the preparation will only take a few minutes.
- You can also make a similar strudel using puff pastry. For the best texture, roll the pastry out well before adding the filling.
- To make this dessert vegan or dairy-free, replace the butter with coconut oil. Instead of an egg wash, brush the strudel with a simple sugar syrup (equal parts sugar and water) before baking—this will create a beautifully golden crust.
- For the filling, I recommend slicing the apples as thinly as possible. Alternatively, you can grate them on a coarse grater to ensure they soften during baking. If using chunkier pieces, consider simmering them with the sweetener over low heat until tender.
- This strudel stays fresh for 2-3 days and tastes just as good as on the first day!
